More Than Just Pizza: Our Favorite Wood Fired Pizza Oven Recipes

Our favorite wood fired pizza oven recipes - more than just pizza!

Who wouldn't want to eat pizza and play with fire (responsibly)? Along with cooking delicious food, wood-fired pizza ovens provide a wonderful atmosphere for your outdoor cooking area. However, the name is a little misleading. It's a wood-fired oven, yet one of the nicest things you can cook in it may be pizza. Additionally, you may roast and bake in it, all with the super-taste-power of a wood fire. Potatoes cooked over wood? Yep. bread baked over a wood fire? Sure. Baked over wood fire? If you want. The point is that almost everything can be cooked in a wood-fired oven and is made tastier by being cooked over an actual fire rather than in your kitchen oven.

Pizza

Pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven is definitely at the top of the list. The primary need is that you make fresh pizza dough since it makes all the difference. You can then top your pizza with whichever toppings you choose.
Here is how to make homemade pizza dough.

Ingredients:

  • 525mL water, take (2/3 hot and 1/3 cold)
  • 1 Tsp of Active Dry yeast
  • 2 Tsp salt
  • 2 Tblsp of brown sugar (if desired)
  • 835g flour (all-purpose pastry blend)

Method:

Combine the flour, salt, and yeast in a small bowl. Add the hot water, and stir to combine. Once combined, transfer the dough to a cutting board and knead it there while lightly dusting the board with flour to avoid sticking. Now knead the dough slowly. Place the dough in a bowl once it has reached the desired firmness and cover it with a clean cloth for roughly an hour. After the first hour is up, give it a good knead, put it back in the bowl, and let it sit for an additional hour. Create at least 7 parts of the dough. To make the dough wider, roll the portions flat and then twirl them.
